  6. This bulletin should replace all other notes generated from this
  7. office to date.

  9. The following information is based on in-house testing and customer
  10. support of LANtastic AI.  If you are not a registered LANtastic
  11. owner, your questions should be directed to our technical sales

  17. RUNNING LANTASTIC AI WITH AN SMC PC220 or PC500WS ADAPTER
  18.  
  19.          The Standard Micro Systems (SMC) PC220 and PC500WS
  20. adapters are supported in LANTASTIC/AI 4.0 with the device driver:
  21. SMCARC.EXE. Standard Micro Systems has informed ARTISOFT that their
  22. compatibility testing has determined the PC550WS adapter to be
  23. compatible too.

  25.          After running the INSTALL program and selecting the SMC
  26. PC220 or SMC PC500WS adapter, a program called SMCARC.DOC will be
  27. in the LANTASTI subdirectory. PLEASE READ IT.

  29.          The SMC PC500FS adapter is incompatible with LANTASTIC.
  30. However, the PC500WS board can also be used in a LANTASTIC server.
  31. The PC500WS board comes in two 'flavors', and the difference is not
  32. reflected in the model names. The SHORT board (~5") is the one that
  33. uses high memory, or RAMBASE, and is the compatible one. The longer
  34. board (~6.2") does not use high memory, and is incompatible.

  37.          There are several other SMC boards, and many more that
  38. have the SMC ARCNET chipset that will not run with the SMCARC
  39. driver. The reason is that the SMCARC driver has a sniffer in it
  40. that looks for hidden registers in the most recent releases of
  41. SMC's ARCNET boards. This was a request from SMC in exchange for
  42. their providing the device driver to us. We enhanced the program,
  43. adding the 'hooks' to work with LANTASTIC.
